THANK YOU! We didn’t know what to expect this year as we made Dining Out For Life a virtual event, and we are very appreciative of the generosity of donors and sponsors who contributed more than $80,000 to be used for our vital HIV programs and services.
In response to COVID-19, Action Wellness made the difficult decision to cancel its annual fundraising event, Dining Out For Life, scheduled to take place on Thursday, April 30, 2020, when more than 150 area restaurants would have donated 33% of their food sales to Action Wellness, AIDS Delaware, and Camden Area Health Education Center, Inc. to help people living with and affected by HIV in the Delaware Valley.
Instead, Action Wellness encouraged participants to DINE IN to celebrate what would have been the 30th anniversary of this vital fundraising event and to continue to support those living with HIV.
Additionally DOFL volunteer ambassadors and Action Wellness staff and friends utilized online peer to peer fundraising to encourage their social network to donate to the cause.
In 1991, a volunteer stepped up to address the AIDS epidemic in Philadelphia. In turn, local restaurants stepped in to help and Dining Out For Life became a yearly event. Since then, this event has raised millions of dollars for those living with HIV in the Philadelphia community. Dining Out For Life was founded to address an epidemic and Action Wellness rose to the challenge. And Action Wellness rose to the challenge again this year.

Important changes to charitable donation deductions– For 2020, taxpayers who do not itemize deductions are allowed to take a $300 deduction from their adjusted gross income for donations to charity. For those taxpayers who do itemize, the 60% limit on contributions compared to their adjusted gross income is lifted to 100%. Please consult a financial professional for any questions about your ability to deduct charitable contributions.
The restaurants below signed up to participate in Dining Out this year, but then we had to cancel the event. Due to the hardships restaurants are currently facing, we did not ask them to make any donation to us this year.
So while these restaurants will not be donating to Action Wellness this year, we encourage you to support them during these challenging times:
Dine out! Many restaurants have opened back up for outdoor dining.
Order take out/delivery food from restaurants that are offering this option.
Purchase a gift card.
Donate to an online “tip jar.”
